Samsung confirmed this Wednesday its strong commitment to folding mobile phones, a high-end segment that is the fastest growing in a global market of "smartphones with symptoms of plateauing.

With the launch of the new Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3, the South Korean technology company implicitly terminates the successful Galaxy Note series, made up of phones with a large screen and power and distinguished by their S Pen styluses, which will continue in the new folding ones and in the S 21 Ultra.

According to sources from the company's local subsidiary to iProfesional, the two models will be manufactured in Tierra del Fuego and will reach the Argentine market in the fourth quarter of this year, possibly for Mother's Day, one of the dates with the highest sales. of cell phones.

Why this commitment to folding? According to data provided by Samsung, the global market for these devices will go from having 2.2 million units sold in 2020 to 6.5 million in 2021. By 2022 they project 13 million foldables sold; in 2023, 37 million; and in 2024, 78 million.

These are high-end models, as their prices indicate: the Z Fold3 will start at $1,799, and the Z Flip3 will start at $999, both in the US. Between September and October it will begin to arrive in different Latin American countries, including Argentina.

The communication of these two models will point to two bands: on the one hand, to Generation X, which met folding equipment, such as the Motorola Razr and even some from Samsung.

On the other hand, to the youngest, accustomed to tactile and rigid models, to whom the new uses offered by the folding ones must be explained. For example, recording videos for TikTok without a cameraman, or making video calls without crashing your computer.
