Daily coffee consumption could be associated with a lower risk of spreading coronavirus, according to a study by researchers from Northwestern University in Chicago.
According to the work of professionals, "the usual consumption of one or more coffee cups per day was associated with a decrease of approximately 10 percent of the risk of contracting COVID-19", compared to the consumption of less than onecup.
This new work wanted to analyze and investigate those foods that help strengthen the organism's defenses against SARS-COV-2.For this, a total of 40,000 adults was analyzed along with their eating habits.
The study was published in the Magazine Nutrients, where it is detailed that “nutritional status influences immunity, but its specific association with susceptibility to COVID-19 is still not clear”.
According to researchers, coffee consumption could also be associated with a lower risk of pneumonia in the elderly.
"Coffee consumption correlates favorably with inflammatory biomarkers such as PCR, Interleucin 6 and the α tumor necrosis factor, which are also associated with the gravity and mortality of COVID-19," add the authors.
At the same time, the study determined that processed meat intake would increase the risk of infection of COVID-19.
"Although these findings justify an independent confirmation, adhesion to certain dietary behaviors can be an additional tool to existing COVID-19 protection guidelines to limit the spread of this virus," says the study.
