Hackers have managed to 'jailbreak' virtually all modern iPhones, taking advantage of a vulnerability that has been admitted by Apple.

Virtually all iPhones sold in Spain can now be hacked to receive the so-called 'jailbreak', thanks to a vulnerability confirmed by Apple itself.

Gone are the days when the 'jailbreak' was the preferred topic of conversation for iPhone owners. It consists of bypassing the security integrated into the iPhone, to install software that is not official or digitally signed by Apple.

In recent years, the 'jailbreak' has lost importance for many reasons. Apple has persecuted this practice and has countered it with new versions of iOS that are more difficult to hack; In addition, many users feel that it is no longer necessary to do something so complex, and that it breaks the warranty of their device, thanks to the large number of apps and improvements implemented by Apple.

That doesn't mean that the development of new jailbreak techniques has stopped; it's just that the necessary vulnerabilities are often discovered and covered quickly, and affect few devices.

This is why the discovery of the Unc0ver team can be so important; these hackers claim to have developed a tool to jailbreak virtually all modern iPhones. Specifically, it works from iOS 11 and up to iOS 14.3, released last December, ironically, to cover a serious security hole that allowed remote control of the mobile.

Therefore, all iPhones starting with the iPhone 5s would have a vulnerability that would allow an attacker to bypass Apple's security measures, and this is how the Unc0ver hackers would have managed to develop their 'jailbreak' tool.

Although Apple has not confirmed anything, the company confirmed last month the existence of vulnerabilities that were being exploited by attackers. In response, it released iOS 14.4, which included, among other things, a secret iOS feature to block hackers.

Therefore, the new 'jailbreak' does not work with the latest version of iOS 14 and devices that have already updated. This implies that the effect of this release will be somewhat limited, since only those who have prevented the update from being installed will be able to take advantage of it.

Still, we are talking about probably many devices, which will now be able to run any app designed for iOS. In its day, the 'jailbreak' represented a philosophy similar to that of Android: an open system in which anyone can develop their own apps; however, no one is unaware that the main reason why the 'jailbreak' became popular was to get 'pirate' apps without having to pay for them.

Taking advantage of this 'jailbreak' means leaving our iPhone exposed, since the vulnerability remains uncovered; In the same way that we can use it to install apps from other sites, it can also be used by attackers to take control of our device.
