It is very common for electronic devices to become old and become obsolete over time.
Right now, Apple already has a lot of iPhone models that fall into these 2 categories, but as pointed out in The Sun, which echoes a document to which MacRumors has had access, everything points to the iPhone 6 Plus will end on this list on December 31.
The Cupertino company has sold about 10 million iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus since they were launched in 2015. Apple has made it clear that the first "will be safe until 2023", however, it seems that the second will not suffer the same fate.
Of course, this does not mean that it will stop working overnight, however it can be in real danger at several critical points despite the fact that its useful life is already quite high.
Apple has two categories where it puts its older devices: vintage and obsolete.
As for the first option, if a device falls into this list, it suddenly becomes significantly more difficult to access spare parts or repairs for these models. In other words, if something goes wrong with your device, it will be more difficult for you to solve it, and it's not like you will be able to do it easily, even if they have announced a home repair option.
The problem is aggravated 2 years after entering this list, since Apple considers it obsolete. Once it becomes part of these devices, Apple cuts off everything related to them. "Apple is discontinuing all hardware services for obsolete products," warns the iPhone maker.
To give you an idea, iOS 15 can only be installed from the iPhone 6s, something that leaves the iPhone 6 Plus and iPhone 6 without receiving the latest software updates. In fact, Apple cut support for the iPhone 6 2 years ago with the release of iOS 13.
The problem is bigger than just running out of new features for your device. Not being able to receive security updates makes it much easier to hack.
