Someone has managed to put a USB-C in an iPhone X. And he has done it with a port that is functional, both in charging and data transfer. The project shows that it is possible to create an iPhone with USB-C and shows us what it would be like to have it in a terminal with these characteristics.

The never seen: an iPhone X with a USB-C port

An iPhone X with USB-C is not something that goes unnoticed. Although Apple surely has several iPhone models in operation with this connector in its laboratories, the truth is that it is the most striking. And the person in charge is Ken Pillonel, a technician who has studied electronics and has a master's degree in robotics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology.

This is the iPhone X USB-C port created by Pillonel.

Maybe you were expecting to see Scotty Allen, youtuber behind the well-known Strange Parts channel. This technician has achieved, among other milestones, creating an iPhone 6s from scratch, adding an audio jack to the iPhone 7 or putting a flexible screen on an iPhone. But it's about someone else.

Un tipo ha conseguido poner un USB-C funcional en un iPhone X (y no es quien crees que es)

Pillonel has posted a video on YouTube where he shows the results of months of work. In a blog post he explains how he started the project and what it means to switch from Lightning to USB-C. He even had a working prototype of the scheme that he has used.

Here he is shown connected to a Mac, displaying his data in Finder.

As can be seen in the video, the USB-C cable is capable of charging the iPhone X battery. And also of detecting the device when it is connected to a Mac, reading its data in Finder. So it is a fully functional USB-C iPhone, although we do not know the speed of battery charging and data transfer.

In ApplesferaNo USB-C: the iPhone will keep the Lightning port in the "immediate future" according to Kuo

This curious change of port occurs in the midst of the push for the Common European Charger, which Apple rejects. The company is against community legislation that would force it to change its Lightning port to USB-C, as it would generate unnecessary waste. As an addition, it is a punishment for those who have had only two types of charging ports throughout these 14 years of models, compared to dozens of the competition.
