Typically, one of the apps that takes up the most space on mobile storage is WhatsApp, because a lot of the files we've saved to the mobile gallery come from this instant messaging app.

After the family reunion, your smartphone will surely fill up with photos of the reunion and circulate in a group with all family members. The same can happen with friends, partner or co-workers. In addition, you often send videos, audio recordings, memes in GIF format or PDF files.

Well, all these multimedia items add up and accumulate in the phone's memory in the form of megabytes and gigabytes, and if you do not clean at a certain frequency, the cell phone becomes saturated, starts to cause problems and asks you to free up storage space.

In this article, we explain how to clear WhatsApp and free up memory on your mobile phone:

How to free up space on WhatsApp: Android

To free up space for WhatsApp using your Android mobile, the first thing you need to do is enter the app. On the Chats tab, tap on the three vertical dots and select Settings.

In the Settings section, scroll down until you find Storage & Data, then click Manage Storage. In this section, the app storage bar appears. Just below are media items that have been repeatedly forwarded, as well as those that are larger than 5MB .

If you click either of these two options, you can filter the content based on newer, older, or more space-consuming.

One option is to select one by one and gradually eliminate them. Now you can also select them all and delete all items at once.

To get rid of those pictures or videos that you received more than once, you can select Delete All Copies to remove all duplicates.

In addition to deletion, depending on whether they are files that are transferred multiple times or weigh more than 5MB, all the chats appear below these options. You can select each and delete the photos, videos or documents you want to free up space.

This can also be done from the Chats tab, i.e. without going to Settings. To do this, click the magnifying glass (search symbol) and tap Photos, Videos or Documents. Select Delete in each of the items you want to get rid of to have more memory on your smartphone .

How to free up space on WhatsApp: iOS

The procedure of freeing up space on WhatsApp using iPhone is very similar to the procedure you need to follow to do the same with your Android phone, After entering the chats tab, you need to click on Settings.

Then you need to find the Storage and Data option and then the Manage Storage option.

Items that are larger than 5 MB and items that have been passed multiple times are also filtered.

From there, the steps to perform are identical: you can select items one by one, all at once, and get rid of duplicates or copies of the same file, and also be able to chat.

Finally, when the mobile storage is almost full, WhatsApp stops working normally and alerts you with a message that in order to receive and send messages, it is necessary to remove items or applications from the mobile phone.
