Honor is showing growth both domestically - in China - and internationally since 2021 has represented its first year as a brand with no ties and no Huawei's shelter, so expectations are high for the new Honor 50, recognized by the company as the first smartphone with access to Google Mobile Services (GMS) and Californian applications after independence. The following review confirms its outstanding features and also mentions where it has been improved.

In parentheses before continuing the review. Various reviews of the latest-generation Huawei phones mention the effort the company - also of Chinese origin - has made to provide devices with great hardware, but the problem is the still clunky use of mobile devices.

The operating system has yet to be implemented on a large scale, one of the advantages of which is its versatility: HarmonyOS. The company continues to launch mobile phones with an EMUI customization layer. United States, the result is bands with a great body, but they will trip at some point, which directly impacts the user experience.

Already fully analyzing the Honor 50, it is comfortable to hold it, without feeling that it might accidentally slip; its curved display also contributes to this; In addition, a plastic cover is added to the purchase box for those who wish to take extreme precautions.

The rear of the unit is elegant and can be purchased in the colors of glacial crystal, jade green and Honor Code, which "decomposes and reconstructs" the five letters of the brand. Similarly, the rear optics is distinguished by a double ring (the upper one houses the main camera and the lower one houses the other three lenses).

On the right edge, in the frame, there are buttons to control the volume of playback and shutdown of the equipment. The fingerprint reader is placed under the display and responds optimally in most situations.

There is no 3.5mm jack for wired headphones. Consumers will need to dive into a wireless pair or use the ones included in the smartphone's USB-CU purchase package, in addition to the charging port where these latter headphones are connected, there is a card slot data and audio channel (also no stereo).

Screen and multimedia

Honor has opted for a 6.57-inch OLED panel that "bends" around the sides by about 75 degrees, in addition to having Full HD + resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels) and capable of displaying 1070 million colors, according to the company. comes with a refresh rate of 120 Hz (refreshes the image 120 times per second), a feature that is starting to spread more and more.

Of course, the autonomy can be reduced if the maximum refresh rate is configured. To give a sort of solution, the Honor 50 has an option that allows you to use the top level only when required, for example when playing video games or watching an action movie.

When it comes to playing streaming content, there are no complaints: the mobile phone displays images with vivid colors and optimal contrast, even when the screen brightness is not at the highest level. The sound is strong and clear, but you have to be careful not to block the output channel; no stereo sound.

Interestingly, it appears from the Google Play Store that Netflix is not compatible with Honor 50 (it passed with a test unit), then we will have to wait for the appropriate update.

Clips look detailed, live and accurate on YouTube, it is recommended that you choose the highest picture quality in your settings so that your videos offer the best of themselves in terms of resolution.

The situation is different in photographic applications: people's faces may look a bit pale and the color intensity may be lost, but this is nothing serious or a factor that hinders the user experience.

Overall, we appreciate that Honor chose a curved screen for this "reset" being presented to it, as it gives the phone a modern and elegant feel.

Efficiency and autonomy

The specification says that the Honor 50 integrates the Snapdragon 778G 5G, designed to provide a more realistic gaming experience and more color-intensive content reproduction, a processor that is also present in the Edge 20, the most entry-level of Motorola's new family.

As for RAM and storage, there will be two versions, at least in Mexico: 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage, and 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage. Tested for this analysis was "basic", although it cannot be said that is causing performance issues.

Productivity, entertainment and messaging apps installed and not yet executed, it will be interesting to see how this mobile will perform in the future if there is still enough RAM and disk space for it.

In autonomy, it does not leave a bad taste, though not entirely sweet. Battery capacity is 4300mAh, which can barely end the day with more or less intensive use. The advantage is that the smartphone includes a quick charge of 66 watts, but what does that mean?

This means that a battery that is plugged in takes approximately 16 minutes to expand from 10 percent to 60 percent. In the tests performed, it took 41 minutes for a battery to reach 100 percent after power failure.

The 5000mAh battery looked more in line with the Honor 50, however the design may have changed.

Optics

The main camera of the new Chinese brand phone consists of a 108MP sensor, 8MP wide angle, 2MP bokeh camera and 2MP macro. Overall, the results provided by the kit are favorable - pictures in vivid colors can be obtained without the feeling of artificiality. Digital zoom when it stays low, it produces good results: the photos you provide are accurate.

It's also worth sharing a selfie, but not all shots can be as sharp with bokeh, which is especially noticeable in the hair, and this effect cannot be weakened or accentuated either.

The camera interface makes it easy to select different modes, from night to panoramic, there are Multivideo, where it is possible to use both front and rear cameras with different screen aspect ratio options.

Conclusions.

The Honor 50 is a phone that performs more than well in several areas, plus it no longer feels like an incomplete branding piece as it integrates Google's platforms and services.

Well, despite the fact that Honor boasts of its independence, this smartphone still has the essence of Huawei in the additional tools it offers, for example in the camera interface and the quick settings panel. In fact, it cannot be denied that this and the Huawei Nova 9 show great similarity in terms of specifications and design.

Honor 50 is now available in Mexico from 13,000 pesos (6 GB RAM and 128 GB memory) to 16,000 (8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage). In addition to the brand's online store - recently opened in the Aztec country - it can be purchased for via AT&T and Telcel operators.
