AliExpress needs no introduction. The platform has managed to become a benchmark and host really interesting products. And if there is a category that we particularly like, that is telephony.

The Chinese giant knows how to attract us like a magnet and does not stop covering the market. For those more distrustful, AliExpress created AliExpress Plaza. A service designed for Spanish users in which sellers can offer their products from our own country with all the advantages that this entails.

However, and despite the fact that the figures support it, many are reluctant to buy mobile devices through AliExpress. Today we show you the gears of the platform to find out if it is really worth buying through it.

We go to AliExpress looking for the lowest price

Each buyer is different, but as a general rule we go to AliExpress looking for an economic benefit. A competitive price compared to physical or online stores that do not ship from China. However, an excessive price difference can cause us distrust.

The main advantage that the platform offers us is the purchase of products directly from manufacturers and distributors. In addition to the fact that there are no intermediaries, shipping costs with China Post are free. This means that even products and accessories that do not exceed 3 euros can give benefits to sellers.

But to understand why it is cheaper to buy a terminal in AliExpress, and what values if it is worth it, the first thing is to know that we are not talking about an online store. It is a gigantic platform in which each company, with its policy and way of doing things, sells products and sets their prices.

Do we lose quality by buying cheaper?

"If it's cheaper, will its quality be worse?" It is a question that every son of a neighbor has asked himself when starting his shopping journey through AliExpress in the face of so many low prices. The reality is that quality does not depend so much on price but on the seller and the type of store they have. We are now going to ignore the hundreds of thousands of items that the Chinese megastore offers from its sellers to talk about two of the keys why a product is cheaper on the web than in a physical store.

The Free Android Phones from AliExpress, how about Is it worth buying them?

The costs between owning a digital or physical store allow the profit margin to be higher. This allows products to be discounted in markets such as AliExpress, where the overwhelming price war

When a seller on AliExpress makes a product available to the consumer, it does not have to have a tangible structure. This fact implies that the costs derived from having such an item end up disappearing from the final price of the product.

The second key to understanding this Chinese framework is its dimensions. The fact that Xiaomi is a brand recognized by all does not translate into absolute immunity to market laws. This means that each and every seller on AliExpress faces a scary amount of competition. The only way to gain a foothold is, effectively, setting prices that follow the trends of other sellers. However, Pello Zúñiga, Marketing Director of AliExpress Spain, spoke of these monetary advantages in the Diario Expansión, justifying them by the lack of intermediaries.

The advantages of buying in AliExpress

Human beings are suspicious by nature and AliExpress shows it. “This sounds weird to me”, is what we usually think when we find a price that is too low for a specific product. Such suspicion can lead to tipping the balance of payment towards the more expensive product. To drive away any misgivings, we summarize the keys why a product is cheaper on a digital platform like AliExpress:

As you can see, there are real reasons why an item turns out to be more affordable on AliExpress. Sellers don't do magic, they adapt to the fierce digital market.

Buying from China is safe, but is it worth the wait?

As you may have read, the prices of AliExpress products are cheap for multiple reasons. The main disadvantage is still the waiting time.

It is worth buying a mobile if you are not in a hurry. It is best to take advantage of the special days of AliExpress (the 11th of 11, for example). If we manage to get a really good offer, and we trust the seller, it is best to wait. A vote of confidence towards the platform that can save us a few euros.

Up to 100 euros of difference between one website or another

Although the theory is very good, it is better to see with our own eyes if it is worth opting for AliExpress. We have chosen some terminals to show if there really are abysmal price differences.

Xiaomi has an official store in AliExpress Plaza, which translates into fast shipping, the same guarantee as if we bought the product in the physical store, and returns available if needed. Now is when the curious fact comes: the price.

What you will have to pay depending on the platform in which you buy, even if it is from the same distributor, varies. For example, the basic model of the Xiaomi mi 8 on the brand's official website can be yours for 449 euros. However, if you decided to buy the same device through the official Xiaomi store in AliExpress Plaza, it would cost you 367.25 euros. Surprised? More than 80 euros in savings for your pocket simply by clicking from one website or another.

Let's go now with another terminal that has been on the market for a relatively short time: the Huawei P20 Lite. We find ourselves again with a price difference very similar to the previous one. In case you want to buy it in a physical store like El Corte Inglés, the device would cost you 246.90 euros (and be aware that it is discounted, its price was 279.90 euros). If we keep an eye on digital stores, things change. If we decided to buy the same phone on AliExpress or Amazon. The first option costs us 212 euros (the 64GB version), and the second for 246 euros. About 65 euros difference between one site and another.

Two examples to prove that AliExpress is unrivaled when it comes to price. We have opted for the fastest and most direct version offered by AliExpress Plaza. The AliExpress global store tends to have even more competitive prices than the Plaza version but they also fluctuate more. And you have to wait between 15 days and a month for them to arrive; with the uncertainty of often not knowing where the packages are.

And at this point, is it worth it?

Let's go with a final summary for those who are still doubtful:
