I have had the opportunity to test the Galaxy Tab S7 Fe for several weeks and then I bring you my conclusions after a detailed analysis.

Design and construction

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Fe is a fairly light and thin device, since it has a thickness of 6.3 mm and a weight of 608 grams.Although due to its dimensions it is necessary to handle it with both hands, it is not uncomfortable to hold or transport under the arm.

The Samsung tablet is built entirely in metal with flat side and rounded corners edges.

It is available in finishes in Mystic Black (Black) colors, Mystic Silver (silver), Mystic Green (green) and Mystic Pink (pink), although in Spain it seems only available in black and silver colors.

In my opinion, the Galaxy Tab S7 Fe is one of the most attractive tablets that we can find in the market.Its metal surface with matt finish remains quite clean and does not attract the footprints just.

An important difference compared to the Galaxy Tab S7 / S7+ is the absence of a magnetic strip on the back of the tablet to hold and load the S Pen.Actually, with the Galaxy Tab S7 Fe it is not necessary to load the S Pen since it is a passive pointer without Bluetooth connectivity.

On the right side of the tablet, we find the ignition button and just below is the elongated volume button.Something below is the Micro-SD memory card and Nano-SIM card if you have chosen the cell connectivity model.

On the left side, we find some pogo pink connectors that allow to attach the cover with Book Cover keyboard that is sold separately.It is also compatible with the case with keyboard and trackpad from the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ tablet.

On the upper side there is a speaker and, on the bottom side, another speaker, so in total we have two speakers for a stereo sound.

In the lower part we also find a USB-type USB connector, but there is no trace of the headphones connector, which is not present.

The front of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Fe is dominated by its big screen surrounded by quite narrow frames, around 9 mm.of width, which allow to hold the tablet with comfort.The tablet offers a good use of space, with a body by body by 85% according to GSM Arena.

The Galaxy Tab S7 Fe is compatible with the s pen pointer and, in fact, in the rear there is a magnetic area where we can place it and automatically attached.

In the rear we find the camera module in the corner, which excels slightly from the surface, as well as the Samsung logo recorded in the lower corner.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Fe does not have dust and water resistance, so we must be careful so that it does not get wet.A tablet is not a device that has so much danger of falling into the water and a smartphone but it would be an interesting protection to use the device in the pool or in the bathtub to watch videos, read or Internet browser.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Fe has a 12 LCD screen.4 ″ with WQXGA resolution (2560 x 1600 pixels), which is a 243 ppp pixel density, a little below the 264 PPP of the iPad retina screen although you will not notice the difference.

Although in a mobile we usually demand a somewhat higher pixel density, a tablet is seen at a greater distance, so this density is more than enough.

The 16:10 screen ratio is more elongated than we usually find on other tablets.This ratio allows you to better enjoy movies and videos but it is less practical for productivity tasks, navigate online, etc..

While other more expensive Samsung tablets have Super Amoled panels, the Galaxy Tab S7 Fe is made up of an LCD panel that does not offer such a deep black and, therefore, its contrast is not so high.Nor do we find a high soda rate in this panel, but we must settle for the usual 60 Hz.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Fe sub-power matrix is RGB type, as usual in LCD panels.In this type of screens the red, green and blue sub-powers are arranged in rows, offering an effective resolution superior to that of the OLED panels with Pentile matrices.

Next, we will see the results of a screen test set carried out with the professional software Calman Ultimate and an X-Rite I1Display Pro colorimeter.

First, it is convenient to know that Samsung offers a single color mode, which covers 100% of the SRGB gamut and 94% of the broadest DCI P3 P3.Other Samsung tablets allow you to choose different color modes depending on the use we are going to give.

The panel presents an excellent color loyalty since the average error when showing SRGB content turns out to be 3.9 of (a value below 4 is considered excellent and above 9 is considered unacceptable), and the maximum error turns out to be7.1, a value that is not too high.

The color temperature is 6.990ºK, something above the reference level of 6.500ºK, which implies a white color with a bluish tone.

Screen test result

The maximum brightness, both with the automatic brightness deactivated and activated, is about 494 nits.This value is in line with the 492 nits that we measured at the Galaxy Tab S6, although it had an OLED screen.It is an adequate shine to see the screen comfortably under the sun.

The minimum brightness is around 0.19 nits, resulting in a moderate contrast of approximately 2.500: 1.

The vision angles are wide and the colors are not altered by observing the screen from a very extreme angle.Now, the brightness is quite reduced by observing from an extreme angle.

A feature that is not present on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Fe screen is the Always On Display (always active screen) function.This functionality is present in other Samsung high -end tablets with OLED screen and permanently shows relevant information on the screen.

What is present is the blue light filter functionality that reduces eye fatigue by limiting the amount of blue light emitted by the screen.It is possible to establish a schedule for when you want to use the filter or configure that it is activated from dusk at dawn.

Hardware and performance

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Fe arrives with a Snapdragon 750g 5G processor, which was announced in September last year and is manufactured in an 8 Nm process.

This is a mid -range processor that we find on smartphones such as the oneplus nord ce 5g.It is an adequate chip for light work loads and for multimedia consumption, but it can fall a little short for more demanding loads or complex 3D games.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G chip has eight nuclei divided into two clusters: the high-performance cluster contains 2 ARM Cortex-A77 to 2 nuclei.2 GHz and the high efficiency cluster has 6 Cortex-A55 nuclei to 18 GHz.Depending on the load, only one cluster or both at different watch speeds can work.

The chip includes different functionalities such as a modem x52 5g that reaches downloads at 3.7 Gbps including sub-6 and mmwave bands, Wi-Fi 6 radio (802.11ax), satellite positioning (GPS, QZSS, Glonass, SBAS, Beidou, Galileo), USB-C 3.1, ISP SPECTRA 355L, DSP Hexagon 694, Coding and Decoding of Video H.265 4K30, and an adren 619 GPU.

In both cases it is an amount of RAM rather just to perform multitasking although, with the 6 GB version I have tried, I have not had problems.

If we look at the main benchmarks, in Antutu V8 it has given a result of 365.717 points, in Geekbench 5 has obtained 648/1.887 points and in Pcmark has achieved 8.510 points.In all three cases these are scores in the middle-high strip.

Leaving aside the benchmarks, in the time that I used the Galaxy Tab S7 Fe I have not suffered any performance problem when executing usual apps.The interface moves with ease, although the change between vertical and horizontal orientation is somewhat slow and, on some occasion, I have suffered a small stop when changing task.

When it comes to multitasking, I have not experienced any problem, being possible to have two open apps on a divided screen and a third app in an emerging window, without the performance being degraded.

As for the graphic performance, in 3DMark obtains 285 points at Wild Life Extreme and 820 points in Wild Life, and in GFXBENCH achieves 450 points in Aztec Ruins Opegl and 471 points in 1440p Aztec Ruins OpenGL (High Tier) offscreen.

In the demanding 3D games that I have tried - Asphalt 9, Real Racing 3 and Call of Duty Mobile - the performance of the Galaxy Tab S7 Fe has been reasonably good, although clearly below other tablets with superior hardware.

With the GameBENCH PRO software, I have been able to measure various performance parameters in these games and, in the three cases, adequate FPS rates are achieved, although with some specific FPS falls that, in a game, they translate into occasional stops.

Game quality configuration:

The devices tend to warm up being subjected to a high work load, especially in 3D games.However, in the case of the Galaxy Tab S7 faith I have measured temperatures of only 30ºC on its surface, so it is not upset at all.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Fe is marketed with 64 or 128 GB of internal storage.If you need more capacity, this storage is expandable by micro-SD to 1TB.

I have not found official information about the type of storage that it incorporates, but the results of the performance tests that I have performed with Andobench shows quite high values of 920 mb/s in sequential reading and 504 Mb/s in sequential writing.

In the connectivity aspect, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Fe supports Wi-Fi 802.11 A/B/G/N/AC IN THE BANDS OF 2.4 and 5 GHz (but not wifi 6), Bluetooth 5.0 and Wifi Direct.It does not incorporate FM Radio or NFC chip, but it has location hardware compatible with Beidou, Galileo, Glonass and, of course, GPS.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Fe has a USB type-C connector that offers theoretical speeds of up to 20 Gbps (USB 3.2) and OTG support, but does not have MHL support.

In the tests that I have performed, the speed per wi-fi has been excellent since it has reached 302 Mbps of descent and 312 Mbps of wi-fi rise with a fiber optic connection of 300 Mbps.

The variant of the Galaxy Tab S7 Fe that I have also tried with 5G cellular connectivity, which allows to connect through mobile networks without depending on a WiFi network.In my tests, I have achieved lowering speeds of about 99 Mbps and rise speeds of around 35 Mbps with a 5G connection of Movistar.

Biometry

Samsung has not included a fingerprint reader, which is a shame since it could have been integrated under the screen or on the ignition button.

What Samsung has included is facial recognition, which is not as safe as the footprint since the 2D front camera uses.

The recognition quite in both vertical and horizontal, although you must be careful not to place the tablet too close to your face so that you get well and not cover the camera with your hand when sustaining it horizontally.

In the pcmark battery test work 2.0, with the 200 nits calibrated screen, the tablet has obtained a very good result of 11 hours and 10 minutes.

In practice, the autonomy of the Galaxy Tab S7 Fe is very good.In my experience, hold a complete work day without problems.In fact, if you only use the tablet to navigate online, you will have battery for a couple of days.

If you want to improve autonomy, you can use any of the two energy savings modes that Samsung incorporates: medium and maximum.

Savings mode allows you to activate some options such as reducing maximum 70% CPU performance, reducing the maximum brightness to 90% or disabled 5G.

In addition, there is an option to maximize the battery that limits the execution of apps to only those selected, limits the activities in the background, deactivates the EDGE contents and change to a dark theme.

By default, an option called adaptable battery is activated that limits the use of the battery by apps that you do not use frequently.The Tablet is learning what are your patterns of use of applications with time.

Samsung also allows those applications to be selected individually.

The Galaxy Tab S7 Fe has a fast charge at 45W, which is supposedly able to completely load the tablet in 90 minutes.Unfortunately, Samsung has incorporated a 15W only charger in the box, which in my tests has taken a total of 3 hours and 5 minutes with the charger included.

Software and functionalities

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Fe arrives with Android 11 and, above the operating system, incorporates the Samsung One UI 3 customization layer.1.You can expect this Tablet to receive three important Android updates throughout your life according to Samsung's commitment.

The Samsung One UI customization layer offers a colorful appearance, although there will be those who consider that the icons have a somewhat childish design.

The application drawer is active by default, but Samsung offers the option to deactivate it if we prefer to have all the icons on the desktop.

To access the drawer, it is enough to slightly drag the screen up on the desktop.It is also possible to activate a button that gives access to the application drawer.

In the settings we can configure that, by dragging the screen down, the drawer is not opened but the notification panel, something that is useful since the fast notification zone and quick access is somewhat away from the finger by the length of the screen.

By default, the icon grid is 6 × 5, but it can be adjusted to 5 × 5 or 8 × 5 according to your preferences.In the same way we can also change the size of the application drawer grid.

By default, we find three navigation buttons at the bottom, but it is possible to activate sliding gestures if we prefer to move through the interface by getsosos.If we opt for the buttons, it is possible to adjust the order.

The main screen shows a great widget with the time and temperature and Google search bar.The icons show the number of pending notifications to read in a small circle, which is quite useful.

If we keep an icon, we can access various options such as choosing elements, deleting onset and uninstalling, as well as specific options for that application.For example, on Twitter we can choose to search, new tweet, new message and scan QR code;And in the camera app we can choose between photo or video.

Samsung One UI interface

Like other pointers, it allows writing and drawing on the screen, but it is a passive pointer, without Bluetooth connectivity, so it does not allow gestures in the air or handle the remote tablet.In return, it is not necessary to load it since it does not have an integrated battery.

Since the panel does not offer a high soda rate, the experience when writing or drawing on the screen is not as soft as in other tablets that do update the image more quickly.A certain delay is perceived between what you draw and what appears on the screen (less than 30 ms according to Samsung), although it is not too accused.

Samsung has included a functionality to automatically convert your manuscript text.You can write in the search bar or in the Samsung titles bar notes with S Pen, as well as taking notes and turning them into text with just one touch.Conversion works quite well.

The quality of the speaker is quite good, and the sound you emit can be very powerful.In addition, it has Dolby Atmos to offer 3D envelope sound.

An aspect that is worth highlighting is the absence of headphones connector, something that will not be liked by many users.Taking into account that the space occupied by the headphones connector is minimal on a tablet, I would have liked it to be present.

Samsung has chosen not to incorporate its own music player, but has resorted to YT Music, the Google player.

Samsung has incorporated some interesting Adapt Sound sound functions to calibrate the sound emitted through the headphones to the frequency response of our ear.Samsung incorporates an UHQ optimizer function that improves the sound resolution of music and videos, as well as a sound equalizer.

Samsung has included its own application called gallery to visualize and reproduce the photos and videos stored on the tablet.The application also allows you to edit the images through various integrated features.

Video reproduction with this app is excellent and the tablet is capable of reproducing unhappy video files compatible with softness thanks to its powerful processor.

To check the compatibility with various audio and video formats, we have reproduced four files with Full HD resolution and 4K resolution, encoded with the H format.264 and with the most modern Hevc.The four reproduce perfectly with total softness.

Of course, streaming services videos such as Netflix, HBO, Disney+ and Amazon Prime Video reproduce without any problem.The device has the Widevine L1 certification, so we can reproduce HD videos of DRM protected services such as Netflix without problems.However, it is not compatible with the reproduction of HDR content.

Camera

Although a tablet is not usually the device chosen by users when capturing photographs or videos, Samsung has incorporated an 8MP wide angle camera.

This camera is not accompanied by a flash, which can be useful when scanning documents - a much more common task than making landscape photographs.

With the great angle rear camera, the quality of the photographs is good in abundant light conditions.The images offer a high level of detail and a correct reproduction of colors.

However, the absence of optical stabilization and a lens with a not too broad opening make the image present a lot of noise in low light conditions.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Fe is able to capture photographs in portrait mode, unfocused the background, such as the one we can see below.The result is quite good with abundant light.

When recording video, it is able to record at Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 fps).The videos present a good image quality for the day, as can be seen in the first video, but worsens at night.

The front camera has a 5MP sensor and a fixed -focus lens.These characteristics are enough to perform video calls or take selfies in good light conditions, but a great quality cannot be expected in other conditions.

The video captured with the front camera has a maximum resolution of Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels at 30 fps).

Within the Galaxy Tab S7 series, we find two upper range tablets: Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ (🛒 € 747) has a Super Amoled screen of 12.4 ″ at 120 Hz, Snapdragon 865, 6/8GB processor, 128/256/512GB of storage, 13MP rear camera (wide angle) + 5MP (ultra wide angle), 8MP front camera and 10 battery of 10 10.090 mAh with fast charging at 45w.

The Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 (🛒 € 649) has an LCD screen of 11 ″ at 120 Hz, Snapdragon 865, 6/8GB processor, 128/256/512GB of storage, rear camera of 13MP (great angle) + 5MP (ultra wide angle), 8MP front camera and 8 battery.000 mAh with fast charging at 45w.

Of course, these are not the only alternatives in the market but we also have other manufacturers tablets such as Apple, Huawei or Lenovo.

Conclusions

Samsung launches new tablets every few months with characteristics and prices adapted to different pockets.The Galaxy Tab S7 series is the most advanced company and the recent Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 Fe is the most affordable model of this family.

Starting with its design, the Galaxy Tab S7 Fe has an aluminum body with a thickness of only 6.3 mm and a weight of 608 grams, so it is comfortable to transport and hold in the hand.The screen is surrounded by narrow frames, so it achieves a great use of the front (around 85%), and the rear has a satin finish that does not attract the footprints too much.

The LCD panel of the Galaxy Tab S7 Fe is not as spectacular as the Super Amoled panels that we find on other Samsung Tablet more advanced.I miss the "infinite" contrast of OLED panels, as well as have a high soda rate greater than 60 Hz or HDR content compatibility.

In any case, the screen offers a great image quality thanks to its high resolution, large color gamut, excellent color loyalty, high glitter and wide vision angles.
