Apple recently released the first developer beta of iOS 14.5. Among the various novelties, one stands out that will make it easier to unlock the iPhone when you are wearing a mask. Of course, you will also need an Apple Watch. The operation is quite easy to understand: if you wear the smartwatch on your wrist, iOS will know and automatically unlock the iPhone. Be careful, it is still mandatory to use Face ID to complete the process.

This is an option designed for people who must go out with a mask. And it is that unlocking the iPhone with said facial accessory, which has been part of our daily lives for a year, is still somewhat tedious. While Apple has offered some updates to make the operating system more efficient at detecting the use of a mask, integrating an Apple Watch into the process will make it even easier.

The conditions that must be met

In 9to5Mac, however, they explain a series of conditions that must be met for it to work correctly:

  1. Face ID must detect the mask.
  2. Apple Watch must be on or near your wrist.
  3. Apple Watch must be unlocked.
  4. The Apple Watch must have a password enabled.

In addition, it is also necessary to go to the settings, enter "Face ID and passcode" and activate the Apple Watch option. "The iPhone can use your Apple Watch to unlock when Face ID detects a mask. Your Apple Watch must be near or on your wrist, unlocked and protected with a password," Apple says.

If all the above conditions are met, you will be able to unlock your iPhone quickly. Once you access the terminal you will feel a vibration from it, while the clock screen will show you a successful unlock notice. Please note that this feature is still in the testing phase. The iOS 14.5 beta is currently only available to developers, but it will likely be released in a matter of weeks.
