Despite the fact that the vaccines against Covid-19 are reaching the whole world and various activities are being resumed, it is necessary that we continue to follow some measures, such as the use of face masks. However, for many this is uncomfortable, among other reasons because it is not possible to unlock the cell phone with facial recognition, but Apple devised a way so that this no longer happens with the iPhone.

Those who have this model of smartphone know that every time they try to unlock it using a mask, an error is displayed and they are asked to enter the PIN code. That is why, in the next iOS 14.5 update, Apple will allow you to forget about having to enter the code and return to the comfort of Face ID. The drawback is that you need to have an Apple Watch.

A few weeks ago we told you that the apple company was working on this feature but now its availability in the public beta has been confirmed, which means that you can get it now if you sign up on the https:// page. beta.apple.com/sp/betaprogram, or wait a little longer for it to arrive in the general update.

Whether you wait or want to enable this option right away, we'll explain how it works and how to enable it.

Once you're sure your iPhone is running iOS 14.5 and your Apple Watch has WatchOS 7.4 installed, open the Settings app on iPhone, then select Face ID & Passcode, enter your PIN, then look for the section titled Unlock with Apple Watch, the name of your Apple Watch should appear there. Then you will see next to it a switch to activate or deactivate the function. Just slide that switch to the On position and leave the Settings menu.

Once you have done the steps above whenever you are wearing a face mask and want to use your iPhone, all you have to do is hold your phone as you normally would to unlock it with Face ID, then you will feel a haptic touch on your wrist , which will let you know that your watch was used to unlock your phone.

In addition to the ease of being able to access the mobile screen without problem, the new function also sends an alert to the watch in case it detects that the iPhone has been unlocked by someone else. You even have the option of remotely locking your phone to ensure information security.

It is worth clarifying that only the option to access the device is being enabled, in case the user wants to use the facial recognition system for other functions such as approving a purchase in the App Store, it will be necessary to remove the mouth covers so that Face ID makes a correct reading.

More to come with iOS 14.5

According to what is known, iOS 14.5 will also bring support for Xbox Series S / X and PlayStation 5 controllers for iPhones and iPads, as well support for Fitness + workouts, Apple's subscription service.

Once the update is installed, the Fitness app will have the ability to stream the audio and video of those workouts, minus any exercise metrics collected from Apple Watch, to third-party AirPlay 2-compatible smart TVs.

In addition, one of the biggest changes with this version is that it will be the first to fully implement app tracking transparency measures, which require app developers to explicitly ask for consent before collecting a user's ID. to show you ads.
