Shared albums, as the name suggests, are albums to which more people than ourselves have access. We can access them by creating said album and inviting someone or being invited. Shared albums don't count toward your iCloud storage space limit, so you can store all the photos you want without taking up any space in your account. They allow us to share a large number of images easily without having to resort to sending and we can use them on our iPhone, iPad or Mac.

How to activate shared albums

Before we start with how to use shared albums, let's see how to activate them on our devices:

Creating a New Shared Album

Now that we have the feature turned on we'll create our first shared album. The steps are the following:

On our iPhone

1. Open the Photos app.
2. Go to the Albums tab
3. Click on "+".
4. Choose New Shared Album.
5. Type a name for the album and click Next.
6. Add the people you want to share the album with.
7. Click Create.

On our iPad

1. Open the Photos app.
2. Show the sidebar with the button at the top left.
3. Click on New shared album.
4. Write a name for the album and click Next.
5. Add the people with whom we want to share the album.
6. Click Create.

On our Mac

1. Open the Photos app.
2. In the sidebar place the mouse over Shared Albums.
3. Touch the "+" symbol that appears.
4. Write a name for the album and add the people we want to share the album with.< /li>
5. Click Create.

Add photos or videos

Now that we have created the album (or if we have invited to one) we can add photos or videos. We will do it in the same way both on our iPhone, iPad or Mac:

1. In the photo library we select the images or videos that we want to add.
2. We touch the share button (square with an arrow pointing up).
3. We choose Shared Albums.< /li>
4. We select the album to which we want to share the photos.
5. Touch Publish.

Alternatively, if we are already inside the shared album, we can simply tap the "+" button next to the last photo/video on our iPhone or iPad, or tap Add photos and videos at the top from the Mac window, to select and add. Remember that in the case of videos, these must have a maximum duration of 5 minutes.

How to save photos and videos

Whether we have added the content ourselves or someone else, we may want to save it to our photo library. The steps are the following:

On our iPhone or iPad

1. Select the items in the shared album.
2. Tap the share button (square with up arrow).
3. In the lower third we choose Save Image.

On our Mac

1. We select the items in the shared album.
2. We secondary (right) click on one of the selected elements.
3. We choose Import.

Let's take into account when adding images that all those that we or others members of a shared album save to their reels will not be removed. Neither when they are removed from the shared album nor when the shared album is removed entirely.

Delete photos or videos

To delete photos or videos from a shared album on our iPhone or iPad, simply select them and touch the trash can icon. On the Mac, once we have selected them, we touch the delete key (←) and then press Delete.

If we are the owners of the album we can delete any element, while, if we are invited to the album, we can only delete the elements that we have contributed to said album.

Extra Options

In addition, shared albums have some extra options and settings. To access them we simply open the shared album in question and touch People on our iPhone or iPad. On the Mac we will find it represented with an icon of a person at the top of the window. The available options are these:
